by spccadmin
July 9th, 2007
5th ANNUAL GROOVIN’ ON GROVEMONT

A benefit for the Friends of the Swannanoa Library
Tuesdays, July 10, July 24, and August 7 (6:00pm each evening)
Grovemont Square adjacent to the Swannanoa Library, Swannanoa, NC

The Friends of the Swannanoa Library present the 5th annual Groovin’ on Grovemont summer concert series in Grovemont Square adjacent to the Swannanoa Library. Bring a blanket, lawn chair, frisbee, etc. and come enjoy these family-friendly evenings of great music! Series is free and open to the public. Pizza and ice cream treats available for sale; all proceeds benefit the Friends of the Swannanoa Library. George Scott, president of the Swannanoa Friends group says, "We’re very excited about the line-up of performers this year. We’re excited about the level of interest in this community event from neighbors and businesses who are interested in taking the opportunity to sponsor the event, and as a result help fund the Friends work of providing family programming for the Swannanoa Valley through the local library branch." Board member Jerry Pope says, "The feeling of community in Swannanoa is on a rise. This type of event, like the recent community-wide picnic, brings people out of their homes to meet and greet one another…This is a good thing for the Valley!" Admission to Groovin’ on Grovemont is free, but donations are always welcome. Individual and business sponsorship opportunities are still available.
To inquire, please email Groovin@iLoveTheLibrary.org or call 686-5516.
Entertainment schedule:
July 10 – 6:00pm Warren Wilson College Folk Choir & Friends – The Warren Wilson College Folk Choir under the direction of Dr. Milton Crotts serves as the heart and soul of the larger Warren Wilson College Chorale. These talented college students have grown up in the traditions of folk, world, and classical music. They bring to the stage a diverse interest in Appalachian ballads, Celtic tunes, Early American Shape-note singing, African traditional singing, and Early European sacred music. Their performances are filled with enthusiasm and professionalism.

July 24 – 6:00pm Lo-Fi Breakdown – Lo-Fi Breakdown is a high energy, old-school bluegrass quintet based in Asheville, North Carolina that is steeped in tradition while forging new sounds and stories within the genre. With a healthy mix of traditional and original material, the band is constantly breaking new ground within bluegrass music.

August 7- 6:00pm Peggy Ratusz & Daddy LongLegs – Peggy Ratusz and the Daddy LongLegs Band bring a diverse blend of timeless old-school Soul & Motown mixed with the guitar driven influences of the greatest Blues players of our time. This fine group of experienced and adept musicians performs the essence of these genres of music. Their inspired arrangements of these classic songs set them apart from other bands of their kind. In addition, the band performs an array of striking original material that has been presented to rave reviews.
