At the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners meeting on January 15, Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO) gave a presentation seeking $2.2M in funding for construction of the East Haven affordable apartment complex in Swannanoa (powerpoint presentation attached). Next Tuesday, February 5, the County Commissioners will vote on whether to approve the funding request. This is the final piece of funding needed in order to move forward with the project.
If approved, construction of East Haven could begin in April or May. The 95-unit complex will be located on US 70, just west of Riverwood Road, near the former location of Moments Coffee Shop. The complex will offer 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units in a variety of floor plans. A landscaped interior courtyard will include a playground, picnic area and garden space. The complex will also have elevators, a community room, a computer center, laundry facilities, and a fitness room.
There is a critical shortage of safe, affordable housing in our area. MHO is commited to helping alleviate this shortage by providing quality housing at a reasonable rent. If you support the East Haven project, please take a few minutes to email or call the county commissioners prior to their meeting on Tuesday, February 5.
