VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES WITH SPCC – We Need YOU!

Here are some ways you can get involved:

• Come out and participate in one of SPCC’s twice-annual Swannanoa Sweeps
(community cleanups), or serve on the Swannanoa Sweep planning committee.

• Sign up for a plot in the Swannanoa Community Garden, or be a member of the Garden
Committee and help plan and organize the community garden.

• Help spruce up SPCC’s website – assist with design, updating content, etc.

• Are you a social media whiz? We could use your help getting SPCC on Facebook and
other social media marketing outlets.

• Join a group that’s working on improvements along US 70 – sidewalks and crosswalks,
new “Welcome to Swannanoa” signs, streetscaping, bus shelters.

• Do you have experience researching or writing grant proposals? Help us find $$$s for
SPCC projects.

• Assist with SPCC’s every-other-month community e-newsletter – come up with story
ideas, or be a reporter or editor.

• Join the Swannanoa Greenways Committee and work with the County to help develop a
greenway connecting Swannanoa with Asheville and Black Mountain.

• Help chart SPCC’s future course by attending SPCC meetings or serving on the Board.

• Become involved in local development issues and help advocate for responsible
development in Swannanoa.

• Assist with publicity – writing press releases, taking photos at SPCC events, etc.

• Help plan community meetings on topics of interest to you and your neighbors.

• Come up with your own idea for a community project or event and let us help you find
others who share your interest.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!

This is a call to action for those
interested in greenways in Buncombe County and Swannanoa.  Now is the time
to make your voice heard.  If you haven’t already done so, please complete
the Greenways survey that the County is sponsoring.  You can click on the
link below to access the survey.  Survey responses will be accepted through
the end of February 2009.

The results
of the survey will be used by the new County Greenways Commission and the County
Commissioners to decide where and how to allocate County resources for the
coming year.  Your input is crucial.  Please take a few minutes to
answer the survey questions and show your support for greenways in Buncombe
County (and Swannanoa in particular!).

Since the
County Commissioners will soon be setting priorities and addressing budget
issues, now is also the time for you to write directly to your County
Commissioners to advocate for greenways in the County and
in Swannanoa.  It’s critical that the County Commissioners hear from
their constituents, so please click on the link below to send the Commissioners
an email now.

Thank you!

Swannanoa Library Workday – Help Needed

Friends & Neighbors:

The Friends of the Library has
purchased and arranged for a tractor-trailer load (100 cubic yards!) of
certified playground mulch to be delivered for the much-needed
re-mulching of the playground adjacent to the Swannanoa Library in
Grovemont.

YOUR help is needed to spread mulch on Saturday, October 11, 9:00a.m.

Please bring the following: You, your family, your neighbors, pitch-forks, shovels, rakes, wheel barrows, and join in the fun!

Please do spread the word to your neighbors…this is a great way to get others involved in helping out in the community!

Also, if you know of any groups (civic, church, scouts, etc.) who’d like to participate, please invite them!

Attached is a flyer that you can print out and hand out to others as you see fit, or post at your place of business, etc.

Many thanks,
George

George Scott – President-Friends of the Swannanoa Library
