Swannanoa Community Garden
There’s nothing like fresh-from-the-garden vegetables, or just-picked flowers. And there’s nothing like the camaraderie of fellow gardeners sharing tips, exchanging ideas, enjoying the outdoors and making new friends.
Gardeners Invited
Swannanoans — young or old; experienced or novice — have a unique opportunity to “get back to the land” in the community garden, located in the Grovemont neighborhood.
Sponsored by FANS, and founded in 2010, garden plots sold quickly. “Modifications and improvements have been made, and we’re looking to another fabulous year,” says Community Garden Manager Sandy Drake.
The garden consists of multiple plots that individuals or groups can rent, plant and care for throughout the season. Renters can grow food for themselves, share with others, sell, donate …whatever they want!
How it Works
The garden is split into 10 plots of 400 square feet at $30 each, or half a plot for $18. Plots are available for planting in mid- to late-March and harvested by mid-October, unless other arrangements are made with the Garden Manager.
Water is available, and is included in the price of rental, though there may be a shared fee if too much water is used. Any compost that is available is also included in the rent.

“Don’t be intimidated,” says Sandy. “If you don’t have the money, time, or experience, we are always willing to find ways to help you out! We can find experienced gardeners to provide assistance, work out a price deal or share materials.”
