The first ever community yard sale sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) was a huge success, and folks are already clamoring for more. Due to its highly visible location in the Swannanoa Ingles parking lot, the sale drew large crowds of shoppers, who found bargains galore at the more than 60 tables.
Sales were brisk for the many residents who reserved space to sell their stuff, proving once again that one person’s castaway is another person’s treasure! It was great to see the Ingles parking lot full of Swannanoa neighbors catching up with old friends, meeting new friends, and swapping stories along with their stuff.
The sale raised over $800 for FANS, to be used for community projects in Swannanoa. FANS would like to thank all of the Community Yard Sale Swannanoa residents who participated in the sale – by renting a space, donating items for sale at the FANS tables, or coming by to shop. We’d also like to thank the churches, schools and businesses that helped make the sale a success, including Ingles Markets (for allowing use of their parking lot), Shelley Hipps of Infinite Design and Marketing (for designing the yard sale poster), Papa John’s Pizza (for pizza donations for volunteers), Madden’s Ace Hardware (for accepting yard sale donations in their store), Chow Time Pizza (for advertising the yard sale on pizza boxes), Davidson Homes (for printing assistance), and Asheville Christian Academy, Warren Wilson College, First Congregational United Church of Christ, and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (for loaning us tables). Additionally, we’re grateful to the Warren Wilson students who volunteered to help us on sale day.
The number one question we heard at the sale was – When will do this again?! FANS is pleased that the community received this new event so enthusiastically, and we hope to make it at least an annual event. Stay tuned for details.
