Downtown Black Mountain Historic Haunted House Tour (Various Times)

When: Oct 26, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Where: Swannanoa Valley Museum
223 West State Street
Black Mountain, NC

This year’s Historic Haunted House Tour, sponsored by the Swannanoa Valley Museum, celebrates Black Mountain’s 125th birthday with a walking tour of downtown. Inside the McKoy Building, one of the town’s oldest buildings, a spell will transport guests back in time to 1893, the year Black Mountain was founded. Walking down the long, candle-lit hallway, guests will meet beautifully costumed spirits – of long ago summer folks; of families who came looking for miracle cures in the cool, clean mountain air; and of pioneers searching for adventure and a new place to call home. The spirits will share stories of the town’s grand hotels and homey boarding houses, and the ghost tales that still cling to them.

From the McKoy building, the tour will wend its way through the streets of Black Mountain, making stops at a number of historic buildings, where guests will learn about the amazing people and events that shaped Black Mountain, and why Black Mountain was (and still is) one of America’s premier tourist destinations.

All tours start and end at the Swannanoa Valley Museum, 223 West State Street, in Black Mountain. Tour times are:

  • 5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m. Tours last approximately two hours and cover less than 1 mile on sidewalks.

Cost is $25 for museum members, and $35 for non-members. Pre-registration is required; visit swannanoavalleymuseum.org/events.
