PRESS RELEASE

GREENWAY FEASIBILITY STUDY UNDERWAY IN EAST BUNCOMBE

Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation Services will begin a Greenway Feasibility Study for the Swannanoa River/US 70 Corridor.  The consulting firms Equinox Environmental and McGill & Associates were
chosen to conduct the study.  This study is funded by a grant from the
French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization.  Buncombe County
is partnering with the City of Asheville, the Town of Black Mountain,
Warren Wilson College, Swannanoa
Pride Community Coalition, and the Blue Ridge Bike Club.  The study area begins at the Point Lookout Trail in Ridgecrest; it then runs through Black Mountain, Swannanoa, Warren
Wilson College, and Oteen; and ends at the US 70/Azalea Road
intersection where it can connect to the Wilma Dykeman Riverway Trail
Plan. D
uring the six-month study, the consultants will investigate the possibilities of greenway trail placement alternatives; identify opportunities and obstacles for implementation; conduct public input sessions; and provide construction cost estimates.  For more information, contact Lucy Crown at Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation Services:  250-4260.
