Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO), a local nonprofit that’s developing the 95-unit East Haven affordable apartment complex in Swannanoa, reports that construction is almost 70% complete, and residents may be moving in as early as September. Applications are now being accepted for 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units. Rents will range from approximately $260 – $700 per month, depending on income and the size of the unit. East Haven is open to residents whose annual household incomes are at, or below, 60% of the county’s median income.
Interest in East Haven has been high, but spaces are still available, and residents are encouraged to apply. For more information, or to request an application, please visit easthavenapartments.com, or call 828-237-3055.
Mountain Housing Opportunities was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Black Mountain – Swannanoa Valley Endowment Fund, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of WNC. The grant money will be leveraged with other funding to help build sidewalks and pedestrian improvements that will benefit East Haven residents, as well as the community as a whole. And with the help of an additional grant from TD Bank, MHO was able to add rooftop solar panels to East Haven’s center building (see photo below), which has a perfect south-facing roof for harnessing sun power.
East Haven is located at 2244 U.S. 70, near the intersection with Riverwood Road.
