An almost 800-acre parcel of property straddling the mountains between Fairview and Swannanoa has been sold for $15.3M. The property was at one time slated to be a part of The Cliffs at High Carolina, an upscale residential development with luxury homes and a Tiger Woods-designed golf course. Although land was cleared and roads were built, the collapse of the real estate market, along with Woods’ well-publicized personal struggles, kept the project from moving forward.
The property had previously been sold by The Cliffs to Straus Family LLC. The most recent sale, to a South Carolina-based group called New Fort LLC, had been in the works for about a year. New Fort LLC has not announced any plans for development at this time, so the future of the property remains unclear.
The Cliffs, which operates seven luxury golf course communities in North and South Carolina, retains ownership of about 1,900 acres adjacent to the New Fort LLC property. According to an article in the Asheville Citizen-Times announcing the property sale, The Cliffs does not have any plans to commit additional funding to the High Carolina project.
