In late June, Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) launched a community fundraising campaign for a new “Welcome to Swannanoa” sign. Dozens of individuals and businesses answered the call for donations, and within a few weeks, the entire $4,000 needed to proceed with the sign project had been raised. Thank you for this tremendous outpouring of community support!
The new 3.5′ x 7′ sign (see design above) will be two-sided so that it can be seen by folks entering Swannanoa from the east as well as the west. It features the words “Welcome to Swannanoa” beneath a colorful mountain scene that will be sandblasted and painted on long-lasting cedar wood. The sign will be mounted on a river rock base, in honor of the Swannanoa River. It will replace the existing but well-worn “Welcome to Swannanoa” sign on U.S. 70 near the Swannanoa Ingles.
FANS is currently working with Lamb Sign Company to establish a timetable for completion of the sign project. Stay tuned for details . . .
