The Groovin’ on Grovemont outdoor concert series has been a much-anticipated summertime event in Swannanoa for the past 17 years. Although coronavirus concerns have scuttled plans for many community gatherings this spring and summer, the Groovin’ planning committee is hoping that the show can still go on this year, with a modified schedule and additional safety precautions.
The schedule is subject to change based on developments with the coronavirus, but Groovin’ organizers are tentatively planning for a single Groovin’ concert on Tuesday, August 11, at 6 p.m. (rain date: Tuesday, August 18). The hope is that a final yea or nay decision for the concert can be announced by July 14. Assuming the event goes forward, details about the band, and the virus safety precautions that will be taken, will be released at that time.
Groovin’ concertgoers always look forward to the delicious chef-prepared meals available for purchase, and this year will be no exception. Unlike prior years, however, the meals will be served in individual take-away boxes, and will be offered free of charge, as a gift to the community in this economically challenging time. Donations will be gratefully accepted from those who are able to contribute.
Groovin’ on Grovemont is sponsored by the Swannanoa Community Council and the Friends of the Swannanoa Library, and is held in Grovemont Square, adjacent to the Swannanoa Library, 101 West Charleston Avenue. For info, call the library at 828-250-6486.
