This past January, Mission Health received a conditional use permit to build a 130,000 square foot medical facility on an 8+ acre tract of land at the corner of U.S. 70 and Warren Wilson College Road in Swannanoa. News of the proposed project spread quickly through the Swannanoa Valley, and created quite a buzz. But then came March, and the announcement that Mission had signed a letter of intent to be acquired by HCA Healthcare.
A large “For Sale” sign now sits on the property, and a spokesperson for Mission has confirmed that the project is dead. According to Nancy Lindell, Public and Media Relations Manager for Mission Health, Mission had placed the property under contract in order to perform due diligence and present a plan to the county. Mission subsequently released the contract and did not purchase the property. Lindell says “there are no plans to build in that area at this time.”
