Swannanoa residents enjoyed a free outdoor screening of E.T. The Extraterrestrial on Friday, May 19, in Grovemont Square, adjacent to the Swannanoa Library. The crowd had a great time watching the movie; eating pizza, popcorn and baked goods; and participating in lots of pre-movie festivities — face painting, hula hooping, cornhole, horseshoes, and much more. As a bonus, Tim Means from the Astronomy Club of Asheville brought a telescope, and was able to point out the moons of Jupiter!
The “Cinema on the Square” outdoor movie series will return in the fall, with a screening of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax on Friday, October 6. Mark your calendars now!
Cinema on the Square is brought to you by a host of volunteers, and is generously supported by local businesses. The event is sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS), Friends of the Swannanoa Library and the Swannanoa Community Council.
