The Swannanoa community’s first-ever outdoor movie series, “Cinema on the Square,” is coming to Grovemont Square (adjacent to the Swannanoa Library, 101 West Charleston Ave.) on Fridays, April 21 and May 19. Many thanks to all those who participated in the online survey to choose the movies. The results are in, and the winning movies are: Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (April 21) and E.T., the Extraterrestrial (May 19).
Movies will begin at sundown; bring a chair or blanket and arrive early (7 p.m.) to enjoy the pre-movie festivities, including games, face painting, hula hooping, and a special Earth Day celebration on April 21 that will complement the environmental themes explored in The Lorax. Pizza, popcorn, and baked goods will be available for purchase before and during the show. Grovemont Square is a perfect location for the movie nights, with beautiful mountain views, an adjacent playground, and a large grassy area for playing games and hanging out.
The “Cinema on the Square” movie series is co-sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS), the Friends of the Swannanoa Library, and the Swannanoa Community Council.
