Moviegoers wait for the sun to set in Grovemont Square so that the free outdoor screening of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” can begin. The Cinema on the Square outdoor movie series concluded on Friday, October 7, but will be back next year. Cinema on the Square is sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS), the Swannanoa Community Council, and the Friends of the Swannanoa Library.

Project Architect Bill Bauman and Volunteer Doug Lebbon work on construction of the new pavilion at the Swannanoa Community Garden. The pavilion will be used for classroom instruction, as well as a gathering place for garden volunteers. The pavilion project is being funded through a generous grant awarded to Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) by the Black Mountain – Swannanoa Valley Endowment Fund, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina.
