The Swannanoa Pride Community Coalition has received a $1,200 donation from the E & M Brown Fund, a donor-advised fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, in memory of Evan and Mercedes Brown. Two hundred dollars of the donation has been designated for the new Swannanoa Community Garden (see separate article above) and the remaining $1,000 is to help with construction of a bus shelter in Swannanoa.
Although there are many people in Swannanoa who use mass transit, we currently have no bus shelters in our community. Bus riders must wait at bus stops along US 70 in all kinds of weather. SPCC is grateful that the E & M Brown Fund recognized the need for shelters in Swannanoa, and was willing to make a donation to help fund construction.
SPCC is currently looking for volunteers to assist with the bus shelter project. If you can help in any way — offering design expertise, giving input on possible locations for the shelter, assisting with construction, providing materials, or making a donation — please call 230-0406 or send an email to spcc2006@bellsouth.net.
