Superfund Community Advisory Group Moves Forward

Next Meeting is Tonight, April 11

SuperFund Community Involvement LogoAs many of you know, a Community Advisory Group (CAG) was recently formed to address cleanup issues at the Chemtronics Superfund Site – Community Involvement Logo Superfund site in Swannanoa. The CAG will serve as a liaison between the community and various federal/state agencies and private parties involved in the cleanup.

In late February, seven people were elected to serve on the executive board of the CAG for a six-month term. Since then, the board has held two organizational meetings, and is working on plans for engaging the public through community events, meetings, a website (under development) and other communications methods. Officers have been elected and roles and responsibilities have been assigned to various board members, as outlined below. In addition, the Board is working to define the CAG’s structure and develop bylaws for ratification by the membership. The board is in ongoing communication with the EPA region 4 Superfund Division to gather additional information about the site.

Following are the Swannanoa Superfund CAG Board members, along with their offices, roles and responsibilities:

  •  Jessa Madosky, Chair
  • Shaun Moore, Vice Chair
  • Amy Knisley, Secretary
  •  Bill McCollum, Liaison to EPA and Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs)
  •  Julia Considine, Public Communications
  • Laura Ellenberg, Organizational Development
  • Vicki Collins, Researcher

The next meeting of the CAG executive board will take place on Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bee Tree Fire Station, 510 Bee Tree Road. The meeting is open to the public and all interested community members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 581-9698.
