Thanks to the efforts of thirty enthusiastic volunteers, there’s now a lot less trash lining Swannanoa’s roadways. This year’s Swannanoa Sweep community cleanup — sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) on Saturday, April 11 — netted around 100 large bags of trash, plus assorted tires, furniture, broken toys, and other debris. One lucky participant had a pleasant surprise when she bent down to pick up some trash and discovered that she’d scooped up a very dirty, but otherwise quite serviceable, one hundred dollar bill! This proves once again that volunteering really does pay off.
We’re still looking for that million dollar lottery ticket. Maybe next year . . . .
