The new Swannanoa Community Garden got off to a great start in its inaugural season. The garden, located in Grovemont, and sponsored by the Swannanoa Pride Community Coalition, offers local residents sunny plots of fertile soil in which to grow their own vegetables.
Throughout the spring, summer and fall, the garden has been a beehive of activity as volunteers prepared the plots, and gardeners of all ages planted, tended and harvested their crops. For the many folks who don’t have their own gardening space but want to grow fresh food, the new garden is a welcome addition to our community.
Now is the time to start planning for next season. We’d like to "grow" the community garden and make it even better next year, but we need your help. If you’re interested in gardening, and have some ideas and a little energy to spare, please come to a meeting to help brainstorm for next year’s Swannanoa Community Garden. The meeting will take place at the garden (105 Lanier Lane in Grovemont) on Wednesday, October 20, at 5:00 pm. For information and directions, call Donna Kelly at 299-4888.
To make this a true "community" garden, we need your ideas and input. Please pass this along to anyone you know who has a love of gardening and who might be interested in helping. Thanks!
