by FANS Admin
June 23rd, 2016
“Movement in the Garden” class held in the Swannanoa Community Garden.

Instructor Kara Dillow guides participants during the first “Movement in the Garden” class held in the Swannanoa Community Garden.

Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) and Happy Body of Black Mountain are pleased to offer the community a series of outdoor mind/body classes through the month of June. The one-hour classes take place in the beautiful and relaxing setting of the Swannanoa Community Garden, and are designed to be gentle and nourishing to any age group or physical ability. Please dress comfortably and bring a water bottle and a blanket, towel or mat. A $5 minimum donation is suggested, but not required. All donations will help support the Swannanoa Community Garden, which provides fresh produce to our neighbors in need and offers educational gardening programs to children and youth.

Schedule of Remaining Classes:

Thursday, June 30, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Nature Walk and Guided Meditation – Explore the garden and the orchard on a light nature walk. We will walk twice, once before a seated meditation and once after. Chairs will be provided.

The Swannanoa Community Garden is located on Clover Lane, off Lake Eden Road. Turn left on Clover Lane just before Owen High School and follow the signs – the garden will be on your right. Map.

Spring Cleanup in the Swannanoa Community Garden

by FANS Admin
April 20th, 2016

 Volunteers Needed!

Sign for Swannanoa Community GardenVolunteers have been hard at work getting the Swannanoa Community Garden ready for another productive growing season. But we could use some extra hands, so we’re calling on the community to come out and help on Saturday, May 21, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. We’ll spend the afternoon planting, weeding, clearing, mulching, sprucing up, and having fun! Come for the whole afternoon, or just an hour or two. The workday is family friendly, so bring the kids. It’s a great opportunity to get some exercise, meet new friends, learn about vegetable gardening, and do some satisfying digging in the dirt! Gloves and tools will be provided, or you may bring your own.

The Swannanoa Community Garden is sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) and is a “Garden that Gives.” All produce grown in the garden is donated to local food banks and other organizations that serve our neighbors in need. Last year, the garden produced more than 800 pounds of fresh produce. Additional beds are being added this year, so that number is expected to increase. Your gift of volunteer time on May 21 will help produce a bountiful harvest later in the season, and will truly be a gift that keeps on giving. We hope to see you in the garden. Many hands make light work!

The garden is located on Clover Lane, off Lake Eden Road (turn left on Clover Lane just before Owen High School). For more information, please call Garden Manager Sandy Drake at 828-581-9020, or email her at sandyjean51@gmail.com

Please join us for a workday at the Swannanoa Community (Giving) Garden.
Gloves & tools provided.

Come anytime: Sat., May 21, 1-5 p.m. (map)
