State Street, in Black Mountain. Meeting attendees will get an introduction to the program offerings, details about the individual hikes, advice for hikers, and information about scholarships.
The Swannanoa Rim Explorer Series offers experienced hikers the opportunity to explore remote and little-traveled territory while learning about the history, geography, hydrology, and environment of the Swannanoa Valley. The series consists of 11 hikes that take place each month from February through December. Hikers who complete all 11 hikes will navigate the entirety of the 31-mile rim of the Swannanoa Valley, and will toast their accomplishment at a special Rim Hike Finishers celebration!
The Valley History Explorer Series consists of seven hikes that explore the Swannanoa Valley’s unique communities. Hikers will be introduced to the significant history of the region through moderate (approx. 3 mile) hikes to historic locations. The hikes take place on Saturdays, beginning in March.
Hikers may register for a single hike or an entire series. The cost of a single Rim Hike is $30 for museum members; $50 for non-members. The entire Rim Hike Series is $280 for members, and $500 for non-members. A single Valley Explorer Hike is $25 for members; $35 for non-members. The Entire Valley Explorer Series is $150 for members, and $225 for non-members. Proceeds benefit the Swannanoa Valley Museum.
