History of Our Organization
FANS grew out of the vision that community members saw as steps to joining for common causes in 2006. Out of that first community-wide meeting, grew Swannanoa Pride Community Coalition, which spearheaded many projects, including some that continue to this day under the auspices of FANS. In addition, FANS has seized on opportunities to enhance Valley life through new projects that foster community-building and shared responsibility. See Our Projects in the navigation bar above.
FANS formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2011, and sought to include a cross-section of Valley residents to serve on its Board, with term limits.
Our focus is to highlight our Valley through projects and events, and collaborative efforts with other Valley organizations, with an eye to maintaining the integrity of our rich heritage.
To continue to respond to our population’s needs, FANS gains feedback from Swannanoans about events or projects they’d like to see happen in our growing community. We get those suggestions through contact links in our every-other-month e-newsletter, by participating in Valley events and through this website. We encourage our citizens to keep informed of news and events that affect our Valley by receiving the e-newsletter. See a sample e-newsletter here and sign up here to receive this in your Inbox every other month.
We welcome your suggestions for Valley events or projects, or for questions and feedback. We need your voice to truly make our organization responsive to residents’ needs. Please Contact Us and give us your thoughts or suggestions.
