At a meeting on Tuesday, April 15, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners approved the allocation of $10,000 to fund construction of a bus shelter in Swannanoa. There are nine bus stops in Swannanoa, and not a single shelter. Our many neighbors who rely on the bus for transportation are forced to wait along the side of busy roads in all kinds of weather. Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) has been working to bring bus shelters to Swannanoa for several years. We’re delighted that this project has received the support of the County.
In addition, FANS just learned this week that we’re the recipient of a $4,000 bus shelter grant from the Black Mountain-Swannanoa Valley Endowment Fund (an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina). This funding will facilitate the construction of additional bus shelters in our community. We thank the County and the Endowment Fund for their support of this important project.
