How To Keep Our Water Clean

by spccadmin
August 11th, 2008

This is an opportunity for to help protect our creeks and rivers
by working through Riverlink.

Thanks.

Can you all please pass along this information about our next
Muddy Water Watch training? This is a great opportunity to educate folks about
erosion control and have them make a big difference by monitoring their
neighborhood for sediment violations.

Muddy Water Watch is a state-wide initiative to
reduce storm water runoff from construction sites by providing training
workshops and materials to help volunteers understand erosion control
violations, and monitor erosion problems to help prevent our number one
polluter- sediment.

The three certification training will cover why
erosion control is important, Best Management Practices to prevent erosion,
regulations for sediment, how to recognize a violation, site visits to active
construction sites, how to report violations, and our online mapping called
imrivers.

 RiverLink is hosting a series
of three trainings beginning September 9th from 5:30-8:30, with next two
trainings will follow on September 23rd and October 7th at the same time. The
trainings will take place at RiverLink’s office in Asheville, NC. Anyone
interested in becoming a Muddy Water Watcher should fill out the attached
volunteer application and send back to riverkeeper@riverlink.org.

 This program is being
coordinated across the state and over 200 volunteers have become trained and are
making a tremendous impact to clean up our biggest polluter. I hope you can join
over 35 volunteers in our watershed that are already helping improve our
waterways.

Please let me know if you have
any questions.
