Initial SPCC Task Force Meetings set for late November, early December

SPCC forms task forces in response to public interest at initial meeting.  Over 400 people came to the October 17 Swannanoa Community Meeting, making it one of the best attended community meetings in Buncombe County history. The Swannanoa Pride Community Coalition organizing committee left the meeting feeling energized and excited about the possibilities for Swannanoa’s future. Much work remains to be done, but we’re confident the Swannanoa community is up to the task…

Our first step is the formation of four community task forces: Residential Development and Land Use; Incorporation/Annexation; Revitalization and Commercial Development; and Swannanoa River, Parks, and Beautification. We urge you to consider becoming a part of one or more these task forces. If you’re concerned about the development of our mountains and want to help figure out how we can effectively manage our growth, please come to the Residential Development and Land Use meeting. If you’d like to learn more about the pros and cons of incorporation and be involved in an incorporation feasibility study, you’ll want to attend the Incorporation/Annexation meeting. Anyone interested in the commercial revitalization of Swannanoa (including the old downtown) or the future of the Beacon site should plan to attend the Revitalization and Commercial Development meeting. And if you want to be involved in working for a cleaner and greener Swannanoa, please join us at the Swannanoa River, Parks and Beautification meeting.

Please help us get the word out about these meetings by forwarding this information to your friends, and by posting the flyer at your church or at Swannanoa businesses that you frequent. Our success will depend in large part on the number of people who choose to get involved. Please download and print copies of the taskforce flyer and spread the word!

We hope to see you at one or more of the Task Force meetings!
