Support Our Local Businesses and Nonprofits

"Welcome to Swannanoa" Sign

The coronavirus pandemic has created huge challenges for local businesses and nonprofits, some of which (such as Native Kitchen; see separate article below) have made the difficult decision not to reopen. We can help our businesses survive by doing all we can to support them during this difficult time. This includes shopping locally whenever possible, patronizing our restaurants (takeout, delivery, and dine-in where available), using local service providers (think hair salons, plumbers and electricians, repair services, contractors, etc.), and purchasing gift cards. Check the websites and Facebook pages of your favorite Swannanoa Valley businesses for the latest information on their reopening plans and hours of operation. Each of us can play a part in helping our community stay strong and resilient in the face of adversity.

Our Swannanoa Valley nonprofits are also experiencing unprecedented challenges during this time. Many of the fundraising events that organizations rely on for their operations have been canceled or postponed, and traditional funding sources are depleted. At the same time, demand for the social services that nonprofits provide has risen dramatically, as our neighbors experience joblessness, increased food insecurity, and other challenges. It has been amazing to see the creative ways that our Valley nonprofits have stepped up to address these challenges, the new partnerships that have been formed, and the way our community has come together to meet the needs of this moment. If you’re able to do so, please consider donating your time or resources to one of the many organizations that serve our Swannanoa Valley neighbors in need. We’re all in this together!
